📝 What This Session Covers

Streaming a church service shouldn’t feel like navigating copyright quicksand – but for most churches, it does. In this session, Bee and Tracey from CCLI Asia-Pacific walk through what copyright really is, how CCLI fits into the picture, and what that means for churches in Aotearoa, Australia and beyond.

We don’t just talk theory. We work through real questions from real churches, including:

  • What copyright actually covers (lyrics, charts, photocopies, projections, streams and recordings).
  • How CCL, Music Reproduction, Video and Streaming / Streaming Plus licences fit together.
  • Why reporting matters, how auto-reporting works, and what happens if you do not report.
  • When public domain really is public domain – and where carols, “traditional” hymns and new arrangements bite back.
  • Why YouTube is not a legal source for in-service or livestream music, and what to use instead.
  • How to think about booklets, carol collections and “we’ve always done it this way” habits.
  • How small or multi-site churches can use SongSelect and the new Lyric Videos to support worship with limited musicians.
  • Practical route-finding for music directors who are trying to keep multiple congregations resourced and legal.
  • First steps towards including Te Reo Māori and multilingual worship within a copyright-safe framework.

The tone is practical, honest, and aimed at helping you build a simple, consistent way of doing the right thing without drowning in rules.
